In the 80s Darth Vader was considered one of the most memorable canvas villains who, according to Jedi Knight Obi-Wan, was “more machine than man”. Meanwhile, the image of the former cyborg patriarch has dramatically changed: He appears in the children’s channel and works in a YouTube series as a friendly Tresenkraft in the supermarket. In his illustrated lecture, the film scholar Andreas Rauscher traces the transition from the demonic machine-man to the Sith-Lord-to-love.
