In her minimalist solo UPDOWNANDAROUND, Lee Meir combines language and gesture in a virtuoso movement.
The young artist from Israel captivates the viewer with her physical presence, her dynamic and linguistically perfected dynamic playing. Using the means of physical theater, she deconstructs everyday situations, gestures and phrases by depriving them of their apparent naturalness and then combining them in a new and absurd way. Through constant repetition and variation in physical expression, she gradually changes the meaning of what is said. With language and gesture, the content is sucked out and unmasked in its insignificance. In the paradoxical interplay between the artificial and the real, between legends and actions, Lee Meir spins the word.
And she only creates this on her own, on an empty stage – a minimalist game that is enormously exciting and surprisingly entertaining.
