With her cruel and beautiful dance performance, Korean-born choreographer Hyoung-Min Kim caused quite a stir at the 2009 Berlin Dance Days. In combination with the dancer Lena Soon-Hee Meierkord, she presents the audience with highly concentrated and exciting pictures that go both aesthetically and content wise right under the skin: not pretty and artistically performed dance movements but archaic gestures and caricatures of symbolic poses in contrast to their gradually crumbling chic and dainty appearance to develop a brutal, yet poetic body language. Based on the traumas of her homeland of Korea, marked by violence and repression, war and occupation, dance becomes the outlet for the implosions and explosions of suppressed aggression, triggering associations in moments of intense silence and excessive dynamics that are repulsive yet intriguing
